When I think of possessions the main one that comes to my mind is football, in my sense Arsenal FC who I've been supporting since the age of 11. But as I've never played for Arsenal FC this means I've never gained any possessions from the club, other then a match day ticket or gifts you obtain from the membership.
Possessions I have gained from football are trophys that I gained from Academy Soccer. Academy Soccer are a Sunday League team located in a field on the way to Wickford. I spent four years at this club and my experience of the club was very bumpy and had it ups and downs. The trophy's I had recieved whilst being at the club are four trophys for finishing the season, a competition runners up trophy and a parents player of the year trophy for the season I was made to play in goal.
From these possessions involving grass roots football has came a bundle of memories, wether that's scoring goals in a Sunday League game, grabbing a vital assist, having fun on the pitch or even making a crucial mistake. All of these small factors combined has created a memory for each trophy I have picked up whilst being at Academy Soccer FC.
Every year there was a trophy ceremony and the most memorable had to be the time I visited Sweyne Park School with my parents and my Best mate and his Parents. This had to be the best ceremony as it was the most grande looking one of the latter and as well as this we played some football outside and had some alcohol. What topped this night off though is that it was the trophy ceremony where I recieved my Parent's Player Of The Year award and till this day this is still one of my most proudest achievements as I got picked out a big group of people.
From the memories you start to realise that having possessions over something isn't as important as you think. At the end of the day it's the memories that stick to you and not the possession itself, because once you have gained that possession that's it, that's all of it, there's nothing more or nothing less, but with memories, they stick to you and can make you feel a different way on different occasions and this is why memories are seen as more important.
It's nice having controll and possession over something, but sometimes the possession get's to your head and can have a negative physciological effect. Memories can also have a negative effect as well depending on what they are, but a lot of the time someones more likely to be naive or get cocky over a possession then a memory. A lot of the time people lose their mind and take advantage of the possesion as well, so this is another negative factor about possessions.
In life I haven't really had much posssession over things because I feel like having possession over things can make an individual feel as if their powerful. I have only really ever had these possesions from the trophies I have won. I wouldn't count my computer set-up as a possession as I directly paid for it, but with the football trophies I was gifted them and gave the power to possess them from my own achievements over the football season.
The fact I get to keep these possessions for the rest of my life and take them on a journey is something I'm really proud of, but without the memories the possessions wouldn't be in place, so the memories theoretically overpower's the possession just on this individual basis. But I'm glad I have the possession of the trophies even though it's only for a sunday league team, because at the end of the day I can show people in the future and tell them my story behind each and every one of them.
Possession's tell story's and from this story's are memories of what you had achieved from gaining these possession's and this short anaylisis prove's why "it isn't the possessions that matter, but the memories associated with them."
